Of the two purchased on Alza, one is significantly louder (by 14 dB) when quiet and heats up (one is at 50 °C, the other at 65 °C). Even the quieter one is still the loudest drive in the field. When reading/writing, the noise and vibration is within the norm for this size. The same MPN at other Czech retailers turned out the same way, we also ended up returning all of them gradually because it was buzzing in our rack.
When plugged into the NAS, there are sounds coming from the drive that shouldn't be there. Perhaps I've come across the wrong piece, but as I've read on the internet, I'm not alone. I'm claiming the disk. Maybe a reminder about the packaging of the shipment to Alzabox, the disc is wrapped only in bubble wrap, one layer. The HDD probably deserved a different package.
I used this 8TB HDD as a replacement for the 2TB HDD, which was already insufficient in capacity (I have SHR 3+4+6+8TB). Since I don' t have the NAS in my room, I can' t assess the noise of the disk, however, it is a minor upgrade in terms of speed (read 210 MB/s 184 IOPS, write 188 MB/s 470 IOPS - values from Synology)
The head is really loud compared to the WD - I did not expect so much loud, will be returned and prefer to choose a more expensive variant from WD already tested.
Within an hour in the NAS what was copying melted in an unreal way.
