You definitely need to keep in mind that it's not for drying your hair, but for styling your hair. I have fine blonde hair and it just burned a bit and didn't hold its shape despite the thermal protection.
The curling iron is great for this, I have curly hair and I always had to blow dry it first, flat iron it and then lightly curl it. The hair was, but quickly greasy and limp. With a curling iron, it's done all at once and hair stays fluffy for up to 5 days. I really recommend it even for very thick hair.
