I bought the reader a year ago, 2 months ago it wouldn't turn on, so we advertised it. claim rejected - supposedly not a defect of the reader, that it does not turn on. Unfortunately, I didn't take into account the reviews where people wrote this and hoped it would be different. the reader was only at the bedside table the whole time with no moves or loads, it's a piece of junk: (

I wanted to move away from the Kindle to a more open platform after 14 years and went with enthusiasm to try Pocketbook. The excitement of the open platform was quickly replaced by a cold shower. I didn't expect that in 2021 I could buy a device from virtually the largest reader manufacturer in our region that would be 2012-level in software and hardware and still be twice as expensive as the latest Kindle. The reader is slow, unresponsive, it crashed several times during my short use so that I had to hard reboot it. The touch layer often does not respond to touch. While the UI is full of options that offer to customize the reader in your own image, as a whole it is poorly designed, cluttered, spartan in design, unintuitive, confusing, and full of ballast. The system's lack of finesse is illustrated by the small detail that after updating the software to a newer version it forgot the WiFi password and I had to re-enter it, or that creating a Pocketbook account on a reader set to English creates a German account on Pocketbook.de and the same account can't be used on Pocketbook Cloud or the Pocketbook store. For some reason, I needed 3 unconnected accounts in total for Pocketbook, and the cloud one ended up not working anyway, as the books that were supposed to be downloaded on the device were downloaded again every time I opened them. And there's plenty of such specks. Plus, it's extremely slow. Turning the page of a not very demanding ePUB takes 3 seconds, it's unusable on PDF, the menu is constantly waiting for something and it doesn't even show that it's working and not dead by some animation. My 9 year old (! ) The old Kindle Paperwhite 2012 is a significantly faster device than this one from 2018. I often felt like throwing it out the window. All the previous screens remain awfully prominent on the screen, and this is not just a consequence of the nature of eInk displays, but of the software's handling of redrawing - other readers with identical Carta displays suffer far less from this. It also boggles my mind why there are HW buttons for turning pages when the manufacturer places them in the middle of the chin between the other buttons instead of being right on the edge where one holds the reader most often, and why the buttons are so small and also recessed into the body that they cannot be easily felt and pressed. I really don't understand how anyone can consider this a quality device, and how Pocketbook can have such a strong market position when one of their top models is such an unpolished and outdated piece of crap. And if only it were cheap, but the latest Kindle Paperwhite 2021 is the best reader on the market in hardware terms and costs half as much, and if you absolutely need wider format support and a more open system than the Kindle offers, buy the Kobo Libra for 5.5k rather than this parody of a reader.
Support for almost every conceivable format
Orange backlight
Waterproof
300 DPI
The ability to view the directory structure of the repository and open documents directly from it
Hard pocket included
An underdeveloped system
Very slow, freezes, takes 3 seconds to turn the page (ePUB)
Buttons illogically placed and tiny
UI design froze somewhere in 2012 at the level of Android 4
Micro-USB instead of USB-C
Heavy
due to the thin frames it is difficult to hold
no explanatory EN dictionary like Kindle and Kobo (Oxford). Pocketook only has a rudimentary translator.
Ghosts remain on the display (normal for eInk, of course, but Kindle and Kobo don't suffer from this nearly as much)
Often unresponsive to touch
It's also expensive for what an outdated piece of crap it is.

PDFs read well on it
Books can be uploaded via Dropbox or email
I had to get used to slow reactions a lot, but that's probably a general characteristic of readers
The AI could use some more thought, you often get to a one-way street and then the option is just home and start again
