The filters work beautifully for the first week. This humidifier drinks water like crazy and the level "disappears before my eyes". I have an Oscar Big (i.e. 4 filters in parallel) and I am able to evaporate 8-10 litres a day. Unfortunately, after a week or so the evaporated amount starts to decrease and in 14 days it doesn't evaporate almost at all. In addition, the height of the water level starts to matter a lot - a full humidifier still evaporates something, but when the water is halfway up, practically nothing evaporates. Into the humidifier I put softened Brno water with that catex whole house softener. But even if it is softened, there are still a lot of minerals in it and they just seal the material (paper). The following cleaning has worked well for me: I take the filters and submerge them in a full sink/cup of water with a little descaler (amidosulfuric acid). I'll leave them there overnight. In the meantime, I'll clean the humidifier container. I drain the water in the morning, fill it with clean water, leave it for a while and drain it. This will make the filters work like new again. If done carefully enough, they last me the whole season, with the proviso that I clean them this way after about a week or so (as the amount of evaporated water starts to drop).
Once in a while I add a step with percarbonate for disinfection, but that probably ruins the paper quite a bit. But it's needed if the filters start to stink (as several reviews here say). Unfortunately there is a lot of "buffoonery" around it, but I really can't imagine changing it after 2 weeks given the price (600-800kč depending on the current event). The photo shows the condition after one week of operation. To the touch, the top is completely hardened as it is full of minerals from the water. After cleaning, they're as good as new and the minerals are gone
