I was looking for external storage for files I don't work with often. So I turn it on only occasionally and after a while the empty holder in which I don't have a HDD started to resonate. The fan is about as loud as in a PC, if you have a computer so there is no need to deal with it. But I have a Macbook air without cooling and so the silence at work is spoiled by the cooling and the resonance of the external box.

Speed via USBC only around 120MB/s
The need for an external power supply under the desk (it doesn't have one inside)
If you have a macbook without fans, then that's the only source of noise.
