This really made me happy. It's perfectly loaded. And I really hope that all ten books will be published in this way. Great afterword, which I agree with. Including an expressive statement about the author. It's perfectly apt. If you finish the whole series, you'll never find anything in the fantasy world good again, and you'll see the difference when, for example, Tolkien constructs a myth in the style of a fairy tale. Here, expect a deconstruction of the myth that actually works.

I fell in love with the series with the first book, so I've now bought the new edition, which by the way is beautifully produced and has an edited (improved) translation. Definitely recommended for fantasy lovers. Perhaps the only obstacle may be the great branching of the story, characters, time and plot lines. The first few pages are just a list of characters who at least mean something in the story, and it's a very long list - 92 characters in all are in the opening list - and believe me, you'll keep going back to that list to remind yourself who it's actually about. Yet this is only the first book. The main series of the "Malazi Book of the Fallen" has 10 volumes. Subsequently, there are another 15 books of the expanded universe, but Erikson himself may not have been involved in that one, and the quality may already be fluctuating. I think that if you have read the whole Tolkien or A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones), then I am sure you will like this one too. It's not just 1 short story, it's much like the books of Tolkien or George Martin and many others, Erikson has created a universe that you will love to immerse yourself in.
