I'm not sure if whoever comes up with these "gadgets" like the locking and tip cap has ever held a compass in his hand. Right out of the box the spring fell out, so the compass is unusable. The tip cap is more likely to cause injury during uncovering than to prevent it. And in general the compass is so lager-like.
