Unfortunately, high school is a year away and still bad. Plus, you can design circuits online in free CAD software and you don't have to scribble anything by hand, with a ruler, protractor in a notebook, and you don't even have to scribble mathematical functions because you can just download the software or use one online.
The software for the arduino is even multiplatform, so you can run it on Mac or Linux, and Windows too, of course.
