I believe the carrying capacity is ok.
The shelf smells awful (probably preservative oil in the material), so it basically can't be used indoors. We spent the first few days looking for an animal carcass in that room before we figured it out. A couple of days after unpacking it was still ok, so it was probably rancid in the air.
