At the time of purchase I wasn' t 100% sure if this was what I needed, but in a situation where I don' t have 12vhpwr on the power supply, but only 4x 6+2 PIN, it did exactly what I was hoping for - three cables from sources to 8 PIN female connectors, then directly to the graphics card via 12vhpwr and everything is ok so far.
He's doing what he's supposed to do.
I read somewhere that the straight end should be more resistant to melting, which is not a unique problem with 12vhpwr
