I bought the headphones primarily for listening in the band where I play drums. Up until now I had ALPINE attenuation plugs and the band's sound was purely acoustic within the rehearsal room. I've been bugged at concerts. The eventual metronome went through the earbuds - don't laugh at me. I've only had the JH5 on test once so far, but I'm thrilled! If I leave the cable unplugged, I can hear the whole band, they're muffled, but it's frequency balanced. When I want to turn on the metronome, I just need to "tickle" the volume slightly - no need to turn it up. Next, I connected to the listening system in the rehearsal room (via a Behringer Powerplay P2) and added some vocals - and that's a whole other thing!
Before I bought it I was a bit worried that the ambient attenuation would be too great, because we don't have drums and guitars in the rehearsal room. It's no problem at all! Plus the guitars, cymbals and shredder also pick up the vocal mics, so that helps the sound nicely. I can definitely hear better than before!
And most importantly, the headphones stay in your ear, which cannot be said of ANY OTHER EARPHONES I've had in my ears so far!
I've tried the headphones for listening and it's great too! The bass is solid but not too pronounced, the mids are defined and the highs are also very nicely drawn! I can compare them to the FiiO FD11 model, which played well but didn't hold in the ear, so unfortunately they were unusable for me. The FD11s felt a bit more bassy. The heights on them were a bit more rounded, but a bit drowned for my taste. JH5 have the heights rendered really well. It's true that the cymbals on them may have a bit of a specific sound, but I don't mind it at all. I can definitely recommend the headphones!
