Purchased as a replacement for the previously used 3M Nexcare Coldhot Classic gel poultice, which without additional fixation (using a bandage or scarf) had to be held in the desired place with the other hand. It wraps around the entire limb and holds in place even when moving, the manufacturer claims on the packaging that it is also usable on the wrist but personally I would choose something a few cm shorter and with a smaller circumference to maintain the compression property. So far, I have only tried its warming properties and compared to the gel competitors mentioned above, it doesn't hold heat as well - it cools down after about 10 min. When heated in the microwave, the edges of the gel insert around the seam get a little hotter than the rest of the insert, which can also lead to unwanted burns - you need to pay attention to this and deal with it e.g. by inserting a piece of thicker cloth or folded handkerchief for stripping.
