The local anaesthetic does work, but beware, there's a risk that you'll pinch it in your fly and not know it. Or the elevator door, that's no good either.
I can imagine it as a suitable condom for survival situations - anaesthetic ointment (it's a kind of a bud) can be taken out of the condom and used for anaesthesia when you need to treat a blister, take out a splinter, shrapnel, suture a laceration or perform an appendectomy.
Thanks to the aforementioned anaesthetic, you will get a longer ride, but only once - once the effect wears off, it's hard to rebuild the maypole.
It takes a while for the numbing to work, so some baseline endurance is needed.
Given individual arousal and preference, even a working numbness may not mean a prolonged ride.
