Works with a 4-year-old HP Envy 15-as103nc laptop. Using a pair of memory modules, I expanded the RAM capacity from 16 to 32 GB. Crucial's web compatibility tester indicated that my computer supported a maximum of 16 GB of memory. I was not discouraged by this, because Intel's specification for my processor clearly states that the maximum memory capacity is up to 32 GB. Now I can run memory-intensive processes without swapping and I don't have to worry about running out of available memory. My procedure for choosing a memory module is as follows:
- Download the free utility HWINFO64.
- Find out what type of processor is in your computer. Then download the processor specification from the manufacturer's website (Intel or AMD) and find out what memory technology it supports (DDR3, DDR4, etc. ), what is the memory frequency and the maximum possible capacity.
- Check the timings of the memory modules in the HWINFO64 utility. This is an important figure.
- Try to choose a memory module with the same frequency and timing. Note that some memory modules (e.g. and this one) can run on different frequencies. The timing of the modules then depends on the actual frequency. HWINFO64 will display this information in a clear table.
