I guess it could be summed up as a lot of music for little money. A great advantage is the 3 different thermal shades and several different light intensities. I use it as a decent night light for a smaller room when I don't want to have a big light or lamp on. For these purposes, probably quite ideal. So I don't use the sensor, but from what I've tried, it responds just fine. The only downside is maybe that sometimes you have to really aim the controller at the sensor otherwise it doesn't respond. Maybe just a weaker battery.
