The watch is connected to the phone via bluetooth, but the app requires consent to use the background data and access to the exact location (without both it refuses to work) - I have no idea what it would need the above for, unless it sends the collected data somewhere else (which seems quite possible to me, since it requires consent to waive liability for personal data when activated).
