It needs to be calibrated! At first it wasn't measuring even approximately, everything was showing +7 degrees. However, there's a groove on the back for a small screwdriver (a screwdriver from an old Meccano set fits perfectly), which allows you to turn the pointer relative to the dial. You'll need a second thermometer and a bit of time to calibrate it. Putting it in the fridge helps with finding the optimal position. :-) It's a shame this isn't mentioned anywhere, I almost threw it away. :-)
