The kettle came with a completely discharged electronic indicator where battery replacement is not possible. According to the manufacturer, it will last 5 years. God knows how long and in what conditions the kettle has been sitting. I'm returning it and I'd rather buy another one elsewhere...

I bought the kettle again after about 7 years because the battery in the display died. A bit of an unpleasant surprise is that the company has since added some vendor-lock that BWT cartridges can't be easily inserted. For the time being, I have the middle part from an older kettle.
