Black Diamond went down sharply with quality. Compared to the previous Cosmo 300 model borrowed from a friend, this new model has a nicer shape and these are probably all the advantages over the previous model. Compared to the 300, the manufacturer states only 64 meters of afterglow on the box, compared to 74 meters listed by the seller (not excluding the alza, but there are more of them listed in the 350 version) and even those 64 meters are very debatable. In the previous model, the manufacturer stated an afterglow of 74, and this number seems quite real to me. Furthermore, compared to the previous model, the manufacturer states significantly lower endurance, from the original 17 hours at an afterglow of 52 m for the Cosmo 300 model, the 350 has only 6 hours with an afterglow of 45 m. (+ 4 hours reserve and the real reserve are still a few hours higher for both). All this is due to the fact that the manufacturer removed the diode for wide-angle lighting of the surroundings and the original narrow cone for far sharp lighting “stretched“. So the result is a beautifully lit environment. The light is then closer to the closer distance, up to about 40 meters, more regularly distributed, but it does not reach such afterglow or sharpness as the original narrower cone, even at significantly lower power. At the same time, it loses a lot of energy by scattering the light unnecessarily “wide“. As a result, the last third of the afterglow (section approx. 40 - 65 meters) has a significantly worse visibility compared to the original thinner cone, in which case it also subjectively evaluates better sharpness. The problem is also at close lighting, where the insufficiently wide scattering of light is already manifested as in the previous model. The light is a little more concentrated at close range, it burns the eyes more, although it may not bother anyone, but who is used to illuminating the whole area in front of them at work will be disappointed.
The manufacturer may have wanted to save on one diode, and compared to the previous model, it literally screwed up.
This model is suitable for “romantic walks“ through the night landscape, or lighting yourself while walking on the road and that' s about it. It is completely unsuitable for long runs due to the need to significantly add power and thus significantly reduce consumption, when it has enough light to illuminate the rugged terrain in front of it. It is less suitable for trips longer than the weekend due to extreme consumption (or carrying spare parts). I also find it not entirely suitable for longer “close“ work. It is also not suitable for camping or social events, because an excessively wide light cone dazzles others too much. In the default clear height setting, the power is up. To illuminate the road, it is necessary to tilt somewhere below the middle of the slope range.
The manufacturer packed some better Duracels for the headlamp. I did not try them, I performed the test with my own Enelopka for 930 mAh. Afterglow test only in front of the barracks, I didn' t dare to run with this defocused light.
Alza took the headlamp back. I was returning due to false information provided by the seller (alza alibistically states 7.5 meters, which the customer will translate so that they were probably wrong about the decimal order, so it shifts the decimal point) compared to what the manufacturer states on the box. Perhaps I will still be able to get the previous version somewhere.
