I struggled a bit with setting up mesh through the RT-AC68U router's web interface, but it's a 2015 device after all. In the Asus router mobile app, the mesh setup went through on the second try. Signal extension on single name wifi works perfectly.
It works reliably.
Setting up a mesh via the mobile app is super easy.
