During the 4 years we have had guinea pigs, we have tried many different bedding materials, be it plain straw, pellets, shavings, rugs, etc (not really suitable for asthmatics+allergics). Of all these options, the combination of large coarse shavings (probiobed yellow) and this asan suits me and the guinea pigs best. I used to put asan at the bottom and shavings on top, but now I do it the other way around. I set the amount with the planes and support the softness of the surface and then layer asan on top of that (because of the mentioned +). Some are angry for the higher amount of Asan, for me it is adequate considering the quality. In addition, when a person uses e.g. of the aforementioned shavings or regularly picks out the oddest spots. 🐹🐹
