Negative reviews are from users who have not read the manual. The rubber ring acts as a seal between the filter and the tap when the filter is filled with water. It has to be there because pressure is needed to fill it. Simply place it on the filter hole and press the whole thing against the tap and let the water out. You can tell when it's full by the water coming out of the pipes around it. Yes, it can happen if you don't hold it properly, but I have no problem with it. Then the filter is immersed in the cup and then turned down through the hole and installed. Thanks to this there will be no bubble and the coffee machine will work as it should.
