I’ve switched from the standard 5800X, which simply can’t compete because of its small cache. It wasn’t even part of the plan to begin with. But whilst the X3D was no longer on the market, the AM5 had become so popular that I decided to go ahead with this experiment. So, thanks to this CPU, I’ll try to skip the whole AM5 generation. The PBO is running steadily at -20; I’ve adjusted the fan curve because, by default, the fan on the cooler was spinning up unnecessarily often. He reacted immediately to sudden spikes in temperature, completely unnecessarily. So every now and then he’d go up and then straight back down again. I’m using a Scythe Mugen rev. for cooling. b and it’s a brilliant air cooler. The CPU runs in power-saving mode everywhere; temperatures are at most perhaps around 76°, give or take. If you don’t fancy paying a high price for an AM5 RAM module, or if you’ve only got one kidney left, this beast will help you get round that. Of course, you’ll also need a suitable graphics card and, ideally, 32 GB of RAM. What the AM6 will bring remains to be seen. But I’m definitely set for years to come.
96 cache
absolutely top of his class in games for his age
you can give the expensive AM5 a miss
icepad – no more pasting ever again
Nothing I couldn’t sort out in the BIOS via the fan curve or PBO
Undervolting this processor is pointless, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone else; it won’t manage more than 4.5 GHz anyway, and 4.9 GHz with undervolting is a pipe dream – what’s more, everything will start to stutter and the processor will stop processing the UI properly, etc.
He’s the king of am4
Carbon pad made from carbon nanotubes – no thermal paste is needed
I’m very happy with it, but I’ve read in lots of reviews that the processor needs to be undervolted – we’ll see how the temperatures pan out over time. So far, I haven’t had any problems with high temperatures.
I highly recommend using a powerful cooling solution, whether it’s a higher-quality AIO cooler or a dual-tower, dual-fan cooler; otherwise, it will overheat. In my case, I used the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120, which costs under 1000, – instead of the Carbice Ice Pad that came in the box with the processor, I used the Thermalright TF7 thermal paste that came with the CPU cooler; I applied it in an X-shape and the paste spread beautifully and works well.
I’m going to skip the whole AM5 platform altogether because of this processor
A massive FPS boost, e.g. In CS2, it’s even doubled from around 150 to a now stable 290+
It works well with a GTX 1660 in Counter-Strike and similar games at lower detail settings, but I’ll soon be getting an RTX 4070 Ti, so it’ll be even better.
With suitable air cooling, temperatures in the idle state will not exceed 30, and under load will not exceed 80 degrees
It’s still cheaper than a second-hand one from a car dealership, where some people didn’t hesitate to try and charge over 9 thousand LOL
It’s a bit pricey, but compared to a full AM5 set (motherboard + RAM + CPU), it’s still cheaper
I reckon I’ve got a cracking PBO – 30 and 84 degrees, stable under full load. AIDA and a clock speed of 4.4 MHz per core: ) I’m using a Kraken Elite 240 cooler. Great buy.
I’ll ride it there and skip the AM5. max satisfaction
I DON’T REGRET BUYING THIS FOR A FEW YEARS OF GAMING FUN WITH THE MSI SUPREM RTX 4070 TI AND 32 GB DDR 3600 MHz
The price, however, for a new item compared to a second-hand one for 8–10: )
Upgraded to a 5800x; noticeably better FPS and 1% Low in BF6 and MSFS. Stable underclocking, with the option to set the PBO curve to -30 straight out of the box. I’m giving it -1* just because of the outrageous price.
Compared to the 5900X, they don’t experience as many 1% FPS drops. In some games, the increase in fps can easily be as much as +50. The ice pad works well. The temperature was 85–90 for the first few days, but after three days it has now dropped to 80 and should improve further over time
After four and a half years, I’m upgrading to my 5800X. Last year, my favourite game, *Stronghold Crusader Definitive Edition*, was released with the entity limit increased to 9,999; with my old processor, as soon as the map was filled with a large number of entities, the game would suffer from massive frame drops and become choppy; with this processor, I’m getting stable FPS without any drops. I’m cooling it in the same way as my previous processor, using the Arctiq Liquid Freezer III 360mm, and in the BIOS I’ve reduced the fan and pump speeds on the cooler to keep it quiet; according to HW Info, the temperature on ccd0 hasn’t exceeded 80°C, the processor itself doesn’t go above 70°C, even though it’s currently 32°C in my flat and around 40°C outside. So I’m curious to see how it will perform at normal ambient temperatures. Otherwise, this processor will breathe new life into the now ‘defunct’ AM4 platform.
gaming performance
It’s not a plus, but I didn’t use the thermal pad that came with it; instead, I used Arctic’s MX7 thermal paste
The only criticism might be the price, but I’ve noticed at second-hand markets over the past year that the price of second-hand models hovers around 12k, so 8799 for a new, upgraded model was perfectly reasonable at the time of purchase
