I've set it to monitor the car indefinitely, so I'm glad it has battery discharge protection. I've set the lowest safe limit to 12.2V so I can start the car and not ruin the battery. In the winter, I can switch it to a higher voltage, and I'm happy. The camera is powered continuously even after the engine is turned off; it just switches to parking surveillance mode. Since I drive almost daily, I can't judge whether 12.2V is a safe limit for starting if the car were to stand for a few days, but from what I've tested, my camera doesn't drain the battery that drastically, so I think it should be alright.
