funguje toto HDD stejně jako jeho starší (8GB) verze. Myslím tak, že si do SSD části ukládá sám to co uzná za vhodné bez možnosti ovlivnění uživatelem? Dá se tento disk bez negativního dopadu na výkon rozdělit klasicky na C (system) a D (data)?

s využitím SSD části je to jak říkáte. Co se týče rozdělení disku, tak to nebude problém a vliv na výkon nebude znatelný.
