Dell XPS 16 9640 podporuje a garantuje spolehlivý provoz těchto certifikovaných systémů:
- Windows 10 Home
- Windows 10 Pro
- Windows 11 Home
- Windows 11 Pro
Lze na něm ale také provozovat alternativní systémy, zde ovšem již bez garance provozu všech součástí (nemusí být dostupné všechny drivery jako např. čtečka otisků, či obdobné specializované součásti).
- Podpora operačního systému Linux
- Podpora operačního systému Chrome OS
Notebooku alternativní software nijak neublíží. Vždy se ale doporučuje před instalací alternativních OS vytvořit identickou zálohu systému Windows pro návrat k Windows, v případě selhání alternativních OS.
