Táto clona je špeciálne navrhnutá pre tento model objektívu a poskytuje optimálnu ochranu pred nežiaducim svetlom a mechanickým poškodením. Je dôležité nepliesť si ju s clonou EW-103, ktorá je určená pre model RF 28-70 mm f/2L USM a nie je kompatibilná s verziou IS STM.
Originálna slnečná clona Canon EW-73D nie je súčasťou balenia objektívu a je potrebné ju zakúpiť samostatne. Na trhu sú dostupné aj cenovo výhodnejšie alternatívy od tretích strán, ako napríklad JJC LH-73D, ktoré sú kompatibilné s týmto objektívom.
