QLED TVs

Quantum dot is an image technology characteristic for its remarkably high colour accuracy. It uses myriads of light crystals, only 2 to 10 nm in size, which display a specific colour depending on its size. Crystals are photoactive, which means they both absorb and emit light. A 10-bit panel can therefore produce more colours without distortion and with higher brightness. Quantum dot technology can be found in high-end TVs by Samsung, LG, and others.

SUHD

SUHD (Super Ultra HD) is Samsung’s top TV range with the best hardware features. It uses quantum dot technology and 10-bit panels with 1 billion colours. This series is designed to provide exceedingly accurate colour reproduction.

Super UHD

Super UHD (Super Ultra HD) is a super high-end LG TV series with LED backlight, equipped with quantum dot technology and 10-bit panels that support 1.73 billion colours. This series is characteristic for its enhanced 4K image and sound coupled with a high colour accuracy, HDR support, and ultra-slim design.

QLED

QLED (Quantum Dot Light Emitting Diode) refers to TVs that combine quantum dot and LED technology. They are based on highly energy-efficient light-emitting diodes which, unlike OLED, feature inorganic materials. This results in a much longer lifespan.

What to focus on when choosing a quantum dot TV

Optimum viewing distance and screen size

When selecting the TV size, consider how far you sit from the receiver and what you are planning to watch there.

^*Many TV channels still broadcast in SD resolution (576p). Larger TV stations have generally made the transition to HD, but it’s not universal.

Panel refresh rate

50Hz panel - common in cheaper TVs. Compared to a 100 Hz panel it results in less smooth and sharp images in dynamic scenes.
100Hz panel - offers crisp and smooth images in the most frantic scenes. The difference compared to a 50Hz panel is particularly noticeable when watching action movies or sports.

TV tuner type

DVB-S/S2 - tuners for receiving satellite television broadcasts.
DVB-C - cable TV tuner.
DVB-T - tuner for digital terrestrial broadcasting. This standard is gradually being phased out in some countries.
DVB-T2 + HEVC - tuner for digital terrestrial TV broadcasting compatible with the newer broadcast standard. The countries that are phasing out DVB-T are switching to this.

Make sure that your location has broadcast coverage compatible with your TV model. Don’t forget to purchase the right cable to link your TV with your satellite, antenna, or cable TV outlet.

WiFi is a wireless technology for connecting your TV to a home network and the Internet.
