The all-metal Olympus DS-2500 is powered by two AAA batteries, and you can use both alkaline and rechargeable NiMH batteries. Depending on the selected recording quality, you can record up to 37 hours of recordings if you opt for NiMH batteries. The DS-2500 has a built-in voice-activated recording function (VCVA). When this function is activated, the recording starts when the microphone detects audio at the volume you have specified. When no audio of this type is detected, the recording will be paused automatically. This is very useful, for example, at meetings. Another practical function of the Olympus recorder is that you can keep track of the recording even while the recording is in progress, simply by listening to it through your headphones.
