Nikon is introducing a new high-performance NIKKOR lens with an innovative Fresnel lens element. This made it possible to create a smaller and lighter lens that delivers markedly clear imaging and high magnification. The Fresnel lens element minimises chromatic aberration using the photo diffraction phenomenon. An aspherical element corrects unwanted distortion, while Nikon's Nano Crystal Coat minimises ghosting and flare.
The lens is ideal for sports, nature, or travel photography and portraits with high perspective compression. The lens’ 300 mm fixed focal length, maximum aperture of f/4, and impressive image stabilisation technology can achieve wonders, plus Vibration Reduction helps to reduce the appearance of camera shake for up to 4.5 shutter speed stops. The occasional colour flare phenomenon caused by the Fresnel lens element, where ring-shaped coloured flare forms around bright light sources, can be eliminated with the optional Capture NX-D software.
The lens is designed for use in harsh environments, so it is coated with a fluorine layer that actively repels water, dust, and dirt. A highly accurate electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism ensures consistent exposures. The lens has three focus modes for easy handling - A/M (allows you to adjust focus manually using the focus ring after AF is locked), M/A (lets you switch from automatic to manual focusing with no lag), and M (manual focus).
