Suicide, or a carefully hidden murder?
Lieutenant Eve Dallas is investigating the death of a retired police officer who was found shot in his flat. The deceased is a former captain of the Internal Affairs Division, which deals with crimes committed by other police officers. At first glance, his death looks like a suicide, but Eve is convinced there is something more hiding behind the carefully arranged scene.

J. D. Robb
J. D. Robb (Nora Roberts) was born on 10 October 1950 in Silver Spring, Maryland, as Eleanor Marie Robertson (she created her writing pseudonym Nora Roberts by shortening her name). She attended a Catholic school, where the nuns taught her a discipline that would later serve her well in her writing career: "You can have all the talent in the world, but if you don't have the discipline to sit down and write, you won't succeed in writing and publishing any books." Until February 1979, Nora was a classic housewife, caring for her family and a small farm. The turning point in her life came one evening when a snowstorm hit and trapped her and her children in the house for a week. "I don't even know what made me pick up a pencil and start writing the stories I had in my head. Maybe it was an act of self-preservation and a way to keep my sanity. At that moment, I didn't feel the slightest ambition to become a writer." Although the manuscript she produced was rejected by publishers, Nora was not discouraged and continued to write. Her first novel, Irish Thoroughbred, was published in 1981. One day, the budding author, who read a lot for inspiration, ordered a bookshelf from a local carpenter. Bruce Wilder came, built the bookshelf, then fixed the furniture in the house, and then stayed with Nora because they fell passionately in love. Nora Roberts is currently one of the most prolific writers on the planet—she has more than 200 titles to her name (including the books she wrote under the pseudonym J. D. Robb), which have sold a total of 300 million copies. Alpress has already published several dozen of her novels. We recommend that readers of J. D. Robb (Nora Roberts) visit the author's website.
