Even as a girl, Dora was shy and didn't believe anyone could ever like her, a belief reinforced by her domineering mother. While all her friends were throwing themselves into romantic adventures, Dora was studying hard, preparing for a degree in education. Later, she too fell in love, but secretly: the object of her affection was Oldřich, a very handsome literature professor. When her mother introduces her to Artur, her friend's son, the famous spark doesn't fly, perhaps because Dora can't forget Oldřich.
