When the dogs came
A masterful novel from the post-war Beskid Mountains by the author of the bestseller Až uvidíš moře
Some secrets should remain hidden forever—it is better not to know that the heroes to whom we have built monuments actually hurt many people. Živa, Ludmila, Slávek, Ondráš, and Karel all have something to hide. But who can judge them when they spent their youth in a time when the inhabitants of the Beskid Mountains feared partisans as much as German soldiers? And is it possible to distinguish good from evil when your soul is irrevocably scarred? The mountains in Wallachia still hide stories of great loves and unfulfilled dreams. The time has come to tell them… In her historical novel set in the post-war Beskid Mountains, Scarlett Wilková bears witness to the fact that the pain of war does not end with the last gunshot.
