Wet fish

Berlin, 1929

Detective Inspector Gereon Rath experiences a city in a frenzy. Cocaine, illegal nightclubs, political street battles—it's a dance on a volcano. The young, ambitious inspector, new to the city and relegated to the vice squad, gets involved, unauthorised, in an investigation led by the homicide department—unaware that he has just stirred up a hornet's nest... A dead man with no identity, bearing marks of bestial torture, is a puzzle for the homicide department. Rath discovers a link to a group of exiled Russians who were planning to buy weapons with smuggled gold to stage a coup. But others are after the gold and weapons too. Rath encounters paramilitary units and organised crime. He falls in love with Charly, a stenographer in the homicide department, and uses her inside information for his solo investigation. In the process, he becomes more and more entangled in the case.
