In this revised edition of the successful book, readers will learn the basic types of wood, how to work with it by hand, how wood reacts to changes in the environment, what finishes were used before and now, and what tools to choose. There are also insights from practice, including answers to the most common wood-related questions. The author of the book learned his trade under his uncle, a carver and turner. Since 1988 he has been fully dedicated to artistic work with wood, and has organized over one hundred "Wooden Evenings". He is the co-author of the 26-part television documentary A Piece of Wood from a Tree, where he summarizes his experiences with woodworking.
