We didn't come to kill

It's not a novella or a novel, but a true story. Dušan Mikušovič did not have to imagine the details - the story of the robbery in Velkobytčín is so fascinating that it was enough to describe the reality. The bank robbery in Veľká Bytča is one of the bloodiest and most daring crimes in Slovakia in the last century. The leader of the bandits, Lajos Bognár, and his three cronies took a train from Bratislava to rob a small bank in the Považie region, but the crime did not go according to their plan. Dušan Mikušovič has faithfully mapped an unknown robbery case, which newspaper articles from a hundred years ago described as a movie story from the Wild West. The author reconstructed the events based on facts from investigative reports, police records and court records, along with dozens of articles from Slovak, Hungarian and German newspapers. He captured the work of police officers, detectives and courts during the First Czechoslovak Republic, when many gendarmerie stations did not yet have telephones or cars and criminals had to be chased on foot, on bicycles or in peasant carts.
