Walking miracle

Cameron Harris enlisted in the Army right out of high school and returned from the war in Afghanistan in a wheelchair. Four years later, she lives with her sister Tanya in her hometown, half destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, and has a pretty monotonous life: watching TV, plays video games, sometimes he and Tanya go to the local diner, to buy cigarettes, beer and chips... But one hot August afternoon, when he's waiting, when Tanya pays and they go home, it's like some kind of wave has passed through him and... Cameron gets up! A circus ensues: the curfew will become a place of pilgrimage, where a miracle took place, the doctors are testing everything on Cameron, whatever comes to mind, The Vatican will send a proxy, to investigate the whole thing, and eventually Hollywood will take notice. But what is he supposed to do with all this? < br> The Walking Miracle is a bracingly funny study of how contemporary American society works, how myths are created, and how easy it is to get lost in it. < br> < br> "Miles is such a virtuoso writer that readers will feel themselves becoming better, more observant people as they read." < br> Los Angeles Review of Book
