Viktor Dusil: Circus Continent

With the radio play Circus Continent we will be transported to a circus environment. It offers us unique probes into the lives of the characters, the inhabitants of circus marquees, who are often captured during dramatic life events. The young and very talented circus rider Ferka Batorys has just successfully passed his high school graduation and is trying to decide what to do with his life. He aspires to go to college, he would like to be a veterinarian, but he also wants to stay true to the family tradition, as his father, the circus director, expects him to do. Ferka has a unique opportunity to get a foreign engagement thanks to his riding talent. This brings into conflict the desire for education and tradition, the young and the older circus generation. The play was recorded in 1960 by the legendary radio director Jiří Horčička, whose approach and work with text and sound were very innovative and modern by the standards of the time. Horčička has also invited great actors to perform Circus Kontinent, with Vladimír Leraus and Ilja Racek in the lead roles.
