In the eighth instalment of the Department Q detective series, the author reveals Assad's troubled past
The body of a refugee is found on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea. The newspapers write about him as “Victim 2117”, and his death triggers a series of unexpected events that bring Assad to the brink of collapse. He must face demons from his past, stirred up by articles from a Spanish journalist, while at the same time he and Carl find themselves in a relentless race against time to prevent an inevitable catastrophe in the heart of Europe, planned by an Iraqi terrorist, Ghalib.
We know Assad as a man with a quirky sense of humour who can handle any situation. However, his dark past has remained hidden from us until now. What is his real story?
