A story from the island of Gotland
Officers Barbarotti and Backman from the Kymlinge Police spend the free autumn weeks on the island of Gotland. On one of his trips, he encounters a cyclist who bears a striking resemblance to one Albin Runge, a man who was involved in a tragic crash more than eleven years ago, driving a bus that killed eighteen people. Several years later - after someone repeatedly threatened to kill him - he disappeared without a trace. Kymlinge police failed to investigate the mystery, and Runge's body was never found. Could the man Barbarotti and Backman have met now really be him? The two commissioners return to the case and discover that everything is far more complicated than they thought years ago...
