Under the dome

An impenetrable barrier of unknown origin cuts off a small town from the outside world, leaving the residents to their fate. The air gradually becomes polluted, supplies dwindle, energy resources run out, and attempts to breach the barrier are futile. Despite all its resources, the government is helpless and can only watch from the outside. A town councillor with dictatorial tendencies, an illegal drug lab, and the only functioning radio station drumming God's love into people's heads – these are the ingredients that act as a catalyst in an already explosive situation. The result is the gradual breakdown of human society, where the rules of civilisation cease to apply. King's masterly study of human helplessness, arrogance, and violence delivers all this and more.
