Toxic love

Fifteen-year-old Lies wakes up one day with a nagging feeling that something has happened to her mother, Jeta. She left the house at night and didn't take her purse or phone with her. Lies knows very well that their mother would never leave them. He doesn't believe his father's story that his mother is depressed and ran away because she couldn't cope with the divorce. Lies is the one who struggles with this, as he can't stand his father's new partner, the beautiful and young Laura.

Lies, who believes she knows her mother best of all, discovers a trace of a completely unknown side of her mother on her computer – her dating account. By the name of the man with whom her mother communicated, she also finds a file with diary entries about their love affair. Luckily, she downloads the file to her place, because by the next day someone will block her mother's phone and computer.

When the family finally contacts the police two days later, Lies decides that the diary could be so compromising for her mother that she'd rather keep quiet about it for now and try to find out something from it herself.

Will she be able to discover the identity of the mysterious man on whom her psychologist mother has developed a strange addiction? And can she tackle all the pitfalls that her search will bring? Nothing is as it seems at first sight.

Toxic Love is a suspenseful thriller full of surprising moments. It describes not only the problematic family relationships, the ubiquitous superficiality, but above all the desire for love and physical intimacy, whatever the cost.

Through the eyes of fifteen-year-old Lies, it factually and soberly depicts the feelings of loneliness and threat of a teenage girl at the loss of her loved one, and above all the chaos in which children from divorced families find themselves, longing for a normal family life full of love.

The author brilliantly maintains and escalates the suspense until the last page and successfully hides the identity of the real perpetrator. The choice of a youthful narrator and his unspoiled view of the world adds to the book's rawness.
