Thonet 1939 - 1945

The bentwood furniture industry was hit by the Second World War, just like all other industries based exclusively on peacetime production. This book's author, Jiří Uhlíř, deals with this sad period in the businesses of Michael Thonet's successors.

However, it also describes the period before the war, as well as the post-war situation in Czechoslovakia, Austria and Germany. The situation in Austria after the Second World War is described by the eminently qualified Ing. Heimo Keindl, the long-standing and last authorised signatory of the Gebrüder Thonet Vienna company.
