This country is not for the old
An unconventional "noir" detective story from the Texas-Mexico border.
By a stroke of luck, a man finds a briefcase in the desert containing a fairytale amount of cash—the result of a drug gang war. From that moment on, he and his wife, who goes into hiding at her mother's, are pursued by the man the money belonged to. On the trail of all three is a rather stoic sheriff—he wants to save the lives of the first two and catch the third.
This unconventional "noir" detective story from the Texas-Mexico border is filled with the police officer's meditations on love, blood, and civic duty. Cormac McCarthy is often described as one of the darkest critics of the current state of American society.
The Coen brothers directed a film of the same name based on the novel, which won 2 Golden Globes and 4 Oscars, including for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.
