In the Footsteps of Folk Magic in the White Carpathians
In the Moravian Kopanice region, a land of White Carpathian forests and mountain plains, the lines of past and future intersect. This is the only way to explain how certain women from the settlement of Žítková were able to see into events yet to come. They were called goddesses, and their art was known as ‘goddessing’. However, the activities of these goddesses were far from being focused solely on predicting the future. Their role was much more practical—to help and provide advice where people, due to their limited experience, did not know what to do next.
Join us as we follow in the footsteps of folk magic in the White Carpathians, get a glimpse into the lives of the Žítková goddesses, and explore a now-vanished phenomenon whose roots stretch back into ancient history.
