The Way of the Dead

Venture into the far reaches of the Russian taiga and experience the true story of a hunter from the Siberian nation of Mansi... Sasha lives far from civilization on the upper reaches of the Pelym River, which rises in the foothills of the Ural Mountains. Twenty years ago there were settlements of several Manx families, but one by one they are disappearing. Only Sasha continues to stay in the woods - hunting moose and bears, and as his friends dwindle, he strengthens his bond with a bottle of cheap alcohol. In his drunken stupor, he puts his hand on his friend Pete. But even prison cannot bind the soul of the hunter. The free life in his home taiga comes alive in Saša's memories of his family and in images of old stories. The worst punishment will be meted out by time itself - after returning home, Saša's relatives are dead and he loses the meaning of life. His gradual departure from this world begins, accompanied by his personal demons and the spirits of the forest that accompany his people. Sasha's character reflects the sad history of the small Mansi nation, which became a victim of the Soviet era and its demise.
