The origin of tears
The latest novel by Jean-Paul Dubois, winner of the prestigious Goncourt Literary Prize, has an unusual theme: Paul, the hero, puts two bullets in his father's head - at a time when his father was already two weeks dead... The court orders the guilty party to undergo a year of psychotherapy. The novel The Origin of Tears, then, is the story Paul tells his psychiatrist - the story of a frustrated man who has every reason to hate his father. However, with Paul's depiction, we also enter a number of other interesting worlds, distant geographically and temporally, and, since the main storyline takes place in the 1930s, the world of advanced artificial intelligence technology. Readers of Dubois's books already know that they are in for an intelligent work that is a mixture of humour and melancholy and can be read as both a black comedy and a burlesque drama.
