The Ore Mountains in the Swedish Grip
This publication presents the development of the Thirty Years' War in the lesser-researched area of the Czech Ore Mountains during the 1640s, a period when frequent invasions made this border unstable and dangerous. Several case studies are used to explain the role of the mountain range in the conduct of this early modern conflict. Special attention will be paid to the phenomenon of the so-called military revolution, Sweden's gradual involvement in the war, the life and activities of the Swedish general Johan Banér in north-western Bohemia, and his final battle, which took place in March 1641 near Přísečnice.
