The King's Debt
The year is 1266 and the Czech king Přemysl II. Otakar supports the weak Emperor Richard of Cornwall. In return, he receives the office that administers the emperor's property east of the Rhine, and then, with his tacit consent, takes possession of Cheb. The townspeople there don't agree, but they don't have the power to stop it. Then they came up with a document according to which their town Cheb was lent to the Czech king Wenceslas I. a huge amount of money, and the Czech Republic still owes them money. However, the Keeper of the Royal Treasury remembers that the debt has been paid and there is a document to that effect. But no one can find it and then someone murders the scribe. The King of Bohemia chooses the solution he considers the most reasonable - he calls the administrator of Bezděz Castle, Oldřich of Chlum.
