The icing on the cake

Life has a sense of irony: At thirty-five you have no time for anything, and at sixty-five you do have time, but you have no idea what to do with it... Bernard and Brigitte, a married couple who have been together for thirty-seven years, know something about this. Their life passes monotonously between work and responsibilities - until Brigitte retires. Happy with her newfound freedom, she throws herself into new activities she never had time for, and above all, she devotes herself to her beloved grandchildren. But her sheer joy lasts only until her husband retires. Bernard, ...a cranky little dick, who doesn't like it, that he should trade the suit for slippers, trying to find a new meaning in life, but he doesn't know, that he could be happy about. And on top of that, children on the verge of a nervous breakdown, relentless grandchildren and, above all, nasty neighbours who constantly make his life unpleasant. Wasn't life supposed to be a long and peacefully flowing river?
